    Interview DIRTY PASSION

(by mail on the 7 may 2009 with Emil Ekbladh singer's band)

Valérie : Hello ! My name is Valérie. Can you please in few words introduce us the band?

Emil : Dirty Passion is a Swedish rock band inspired and influenced by the 70’s and 80’s hard rock music. We like to call ourselves a classic rock band.

Valérie : What bands gave you the desire to be a musician?

Emil : Pretty much everything rock. We listen to everything from early rock n’ roll and blues inspired stuff to some of todays rock bands. But we’re mostly stuck around the 70’s and 80’s. We want a hard edge to it, but we still want to keep it classic in a way.

Valérie : What are your favourite bands?

Emil : Too many to name them all, but we pick up a lot of influences from Kiss, Guns ‘n’ Roses, Thin Lizzy, Europe, Black Sabbath, Whitesnake… Classic rock !

Valérie : How old are you when did you know that you wanted to become a musician?

Emil : Can’t remember how old, but when class mates were buying their first CD’s with this new popular hit music we were digging our parents LP-collections and browsing second hand LP/CD stores. We were probably pretty young all of us and I think we all pretty soon knew what we wanted to do in life.

Valérie : Will you do a tour outside Sweden ?

Emil : Definitely ! It’s just a matter of money and time. It’s hard to get out there on your own. We need to team up with other bands, record labels and promoters. We’ll get there soon. Till then, we may do some occasional gigs in other countries in Europe.

Valérie : Your parents, your friends supported you in this choice or on the contrary, your parents for example would have preferred to see you do a job "more serious" as... banker for exemple lol

Emil : Rock n’ roll is not necessarily what your parents want you to do for a living. We do what we want, that’s all there is to it. You can never let anyone else decide for you. Rock n’ roll is actually not really a job, it’s more of a lifestyle. Yet another reason for your parents to complain…

Valérie : For you, in your wildest dreams, you like to do the open show of which band?

Emil  : I think we would all go for Kiss. That’s a dream for anyone.

Valérie : When you write lyrics, do you think of them in Swedish at first, or directly in English?

Emil : When you write lyrics, you write out of feelings and things you’ve been through. I mean Love in Enlish and Swedish is the same. It’s more a feeling than a word. First you get the feeling, and after that, there’s no problem putting words to it, as long as you know the language you want you use. I feel that there’s no way you could ever write a good lyric without starting from feelings. You have to sing from the heart.

Valérie : How do you compose your songs? The idea comes first the lyrics or music?

Emil : Most of the times we start with the music, from a good guitar riff or so. Then you try to get a feeling from the music and you usually have an idea or two on what to write about lyrically. Some songs are meant to be rockers while some tend to be softer and more vocal focused. Sometimes we know from the start what the lyrics should be based around, but we always start out with the music, before writing the lyrics.

Valérie : If I name you others Swedish bands, can you tell me what you think about all this bands ?

    EUROPE ?

Emil : Definitely a main influence. Joey Tempest is one of the most talented singers and writers around and John Norum is one hell of a guitar player.

    BAI BANG ?

Emil : Cool guys. We’ve played at least one gig together with them. Really good band.

    NASTY IDOLS ?

Emil  : You don’t hear about the too much anymore and that’s a shame. Great band.

    H.E.A.T ?

Emil  : Don’t know too much about them. Know too little to comment on them.

    LAST AUTUMN ' S DREAM ?

    Emil  : Never heard of.

Valérie : If you had to choose just one song from all your songs to talk about, which would be and why?

Emil  : Self-Destrucive is as far as I’m concerned one of our songs I’m most proud of. It’s a real killer and I think most people can’t relate to the lyrics. I mean, how many of us doesn’t feel a bit self-destructive from time to time ? I sure do !

Valérie : I leave you the last word, if you have something to add, don't hesitate!

Emil  : You should all check us out and download our songs. Spread the word, ‘cause we intend to come to your country and rock really soon. You better know the lyrics !

    NDLR : Site DIRTY PASSION

Valérie : Thank you for taking the time to answer my questions!

    Emil  : Thanks a lot !
