Europe: We’ve Considered Not Playing Final Countdown!

Europe frontman Joey Tempest has admitted the band have thought about dropping all of their older material from their live set, to concentrate solely on songs from the last four studio albums since their reunion in 2003.

“We have seriously talked about it,” Tempest told Classic Rock, “and yes, it would include leaving out The Final Countdown. But right now, we don’t feel it’s the right thing to do. Fans come along to shows expecting to hear certain old favourites, and they wouldn’t be happy if we did this. But it is something we could certainly do in the future.”

The band release new album Bag Of Bones on April 30, and they play at the Download Festival on Friday, June 8.

“We go on early on the second stage, but that’s OK. For us, it’s a dream come true, because one of our dreams has always been to play at Donington.”

This is followed by a full tour in November, with the possibility of more British dates in 2013.

“Our tour is now being extended into next year, so we might well return either to play at a festival, or do more of our own shows. And then we have to think about our 10^th album, which we’ll record in 2014. That’s gonna be a landmark for us.”

Joey Tempest, le leader d’Europe a admis que le groupe avait pensé à enlever toutes leurs anciennes chansons de leurs concerts, pour se concentrer uniquement sur les chansons de leurs 4 derniers albums studio depuis leur réunion en 2003.

« Nous en avons sérieusement parlé », dit Tempest à Classic Rock « et oui, ça incluait d’abandonner TFC. Mais maintenant nous pensons que ce n’est pas la bonne chose à faire. Les fans viennent à nos concerts espérant entendre certaines de leurs chansons favorites, et ils ne seraient pas contents si nous faisions ça. Mais c’est quelque chose que nous pourrions faire dans le futur ».

Le groupe sort le nouvel album Bag of Bones le 30 avril et ils jouent au Download Festival le vendredi 8 juin.

« Nous jouons tôt sur la 2^nde scène mais c’est OK. Pour nous, c’est un rêve qui devient réalité, parce que l’un de nos rêves a toujours été de jouer à Donington ».

Il sera suivi d’une tournée intégrale en novembre avec la possibilité de dates complémentaires au Royaume Uni en 2013.

« Notre tournée va maintenant se prolonger sur l’année prochaine, alors nous pourrions retourner jouer dans un festival ou donner davantage de nos propres concerts. Et nous avons à penser à notre 10^e album que nous enregistrerons en 2014. Ce sera un événement marquant pour nous. »
