Interview with Andy Pierce (Lead Vocal NASTY IDOLS ) by mail on the 28/04/2009

Valérie : Hello ! My name is Valérie. Can you please in few words introduce us the band?
Andy : Nasty Idols is a band that were formed back in 1987.We released our first album 1989 and then worked hard to promote ourseleves. We started to get the recognitaion by the time of our second album "Cruel Intention", 1991. We had a lot of fun and did a lot of touring but had to surrender to the "grunge" era around 1995. We split the band and never thought that we'll get back together again.

Valérie : As many bands of the 80's, you are back. What gave you envy to make an album now ?

Andy : We were re-united in 2006 and did the tour "Rejects On The Road". And if we were suppose to go on with the band we wanted to play new songs. Not just oldies from the past. So we started to write new songs and ended up with this new album "Boys Town".

Valérie : What do you think of the return of the famous bands of 80 years as EUROPE, WHITE LION or MOTLEY CRUE?

Andy : I think it's great. That whole scene of 80's band really made our comeback.

Valérie : During your "absence", did you work in the other groups? If yes, which one?

Andy : After the first time around with Nasty Idols I was in a band called Machinegun Kelly that released one album called "White Line Offside". Then I released a solo album called "No Place for Late Regrets". And then just before the re-union of Nasty Idols I was in a band called United eneimes wich also released a album called "All The Sick Things We Do".

Valérie : What bands gave you the desire to be a musician?

Andy : When I saw the posters on the wall of KISS at a friends place. It totally rocked my world. I begged my parents to buy me a guitar.

Valérie : What are your favourite bands?

Andy : I got so many. But I rather like songs than bands. I like ABBA, Sex Pistols, Oasis, Rolling Stones, Hanoi Rocks...the list can go on forever.

Valérie : If you had to choose just one song from your new album to talk about your album, which would be and why?

Andy : I would choose the title track « Boys Town ». I really like that one. It captures The whole mood of the album. It’s like inviting you to come along for the ride...

Valérie : Will you do a tour?

Andy : Yes, we will do a tour. We’re right now in the progress of putting it together.

Valérie : If I name you others Swedish bands, can you tell me what you think about all this bands ?

    EUROPE ?

Andy : I listened to them all the time when I was a kid growing up. « Final Countdown » is the soundtrack to every teenage party we had.

    BAI BANG ?

Andy : I don’t think so much about them.

    H.E.A.T ?

Andy : Not my kind of style.

    BACKYARD BABIES?

Andy : Sometimes they really rule major, but It’s been a while.

    HAMMERFALL?

Andy : Not my kind of style.

Valérie : If you had to choose a Metal Female singer to do so a duet with you on a title, who you would choose and why?

Andy : I think I would choose Wendy James (Transvison Vamp), Joan Jett or Lita Ford or anyone with a raspy rock voice.

Valérie : When you write lyrics, do you think of them in Swedish at first, or directly in English?

Andy : I go for English straight away. I never think in the Swedish language when we write songs.

Valérie : How do you compose your songs? The idea comes first the lyrics or music?

Andy : It depends. Sometimes you come up with a title for a song and then you build the song around that.Other times there’s a good riff that makes the song. There’s never any rules how you go about making a song. But we always write the verse lyrics when everything in a song is done.

Valérie : I did the chronicle of your album, I find it excellent ! It's fun, it's fresh, like a first album. Do you think you needed all this time of separation to make an album like this?

Andy : Yes I relly think so. Because we feel like this is our first album. If we do one more album it's almost like it's gonna be worse than this album..ha ha. I think you need really much time to write a good rock album.

Valérie : Since I listen Hard Rock, for me, Sweden is the country which "provides" the best bands. So a question comes to mind... In Sweden, have you a magical powers or a gift in particular with the music? :-)

Andy : I think it is the tradition in school. That we actually learn music in school. For me it was like a major choice when I was young - to be a musician or a tennisplayer.

Valérie : What was your reaction the first time you heard a song of your band on the radio?

Andy : We heared a song of ours when we were driving from a gig or something. We did they classic thing: We stopped the car and danced around it.

Valérie : I leave you the last word, if you have something to add, don't hesitate!

Andy : Rock The Fuck On!

Valérie : Thank you for taking the time to answer my questions!

    Andy : No problemo!
